Head of Greece’s National Organization for Public Health (EODY), Theoklis Zaoutis, resigned on Wednesday,and thus amid a situation of high health concern in flooded areas.
The Professor for Children Epidemiology was EODY head since October 20212.
He was forced to resign, media reported.
His successor is Professor of Health and Epidemiology Christos Hatzichristodoulou.
Even though the exact reason for his resignation has not been made public, Zaoutis’ departure was not out of the blue as he seemed to be at odds with the new deputy health minister Irini Agapidaki.

Stelios Orfanos, a professor and expert in intensive care, took over as the acting EODY chief a few days earlier., according to a decision signed by Health Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis and Alternate Health Minister Irene Agapidaki.
Zaoutis’ resignation comes amid mounting concerns over the public health hazards stemming from the widespread flooding in central Greece.
