A “Very High Risk of Fires”(risk category 4) has been forecast in three Greek regions for Friday, August 25, 2023, according to the Fire Danger Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of the Climate Crisis and Civil Protection ministry.

It is the “Hot-Dry-Windy” conditions that dramatically increase the risk for wildfires making the extinction of the several fire fronts across the country difficult.

“Very High Fire Risk” (category 4) for the following areas:

  • Attica
  • Viotia
  • Evia

Regions marked “YELLOW” indicate that they are at “High risk of Fires” (category 3).

At the same time, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection recommends that citizens be especially careful and avoid actions in the open air that can cause a fire by negligence, such as

  • burning dry grass and branches or cleaning residues
  • use of machines that cause sparks such as circular saws, welding devices
  • use of outdoor grills
  • smoking of bees
  • burning of fields

Winds are expected to weaken and reach maximum 6 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea.
