One woman dead, 18 migrants rescued when boat sinks off Agathonissi

The body of one woman was recovered from the sea and 18 passengers of a dinghy boat were rescued after the boat sank south-east of the island of the Agathonissi in the eastern Aegean Sea on Friday morning.

A Search And Rescue operation was launched with the participation of two coast guard boats and an Air Force helicopter. Winds were blowing with intensity of 4 Beaufort.

According to the Coast Guard, of the 18 rescued, six were rescued from the sea, while 11 were still on the boat  that had taken on water.

A total of 19 migrants had left Turkey for Greece.
