UK Police Officer found dead on Corfu island

A 22-year-old British tourist was found dead on a side street in the area of Kavos on the island of Corfu on Friday morning. The tourist was working as police officer in London, UK, and was on the island in the Ionian Sea for vacations together with a colleague.

The body was found by a passerby. Ambulance with rescuers, security and forensic teams,crime investigators and a medical examiner were at the spot as soon as the body was located.

Citing police sources, local media kerkyrasimera reported that local police seems to rule out the scenario of a crime, attributing the death to an accident.

The young woman has reportedly suffered a head injury as the result of a fall. She bled out and remained unconscious for hours on a side street of the main road, until Friday morning when she was spotted by passers-by.

The exact cause of the UK police officer’s death is to be determined by an autopsy.

According to media information, the 22-year-old was a police officer serving in London and it was just her first day of vacation on the island together with a compatriot friend and colleague.

In the evening they had gone together out to have fun and at some point her friend left first and went back to the hotel alone.

Police in Corfu continues the investigation.
