ELIAS Updated: Storm Warning to citizens of Ionian islands, central Greece, Peloponnese

As meteorologists updated the forecast of storm ELIAS on Tuesday, residents in Peloponnese, on the islands of Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Ithaca, northern Evia as well as in the western suburbs of Athens/Attica, in Evrytania, Fthiotida, Fokida, Viotia and Magnisia started to receive emergency messages via <112> as from Tuesday noon. The messages warned them of “dangerous weather phenomena” with strong thunderstorms and hail-falls forecast for the next 24 hours.

It looks, though, as if residents of certain areas in Attica received the alert message by … mistake made by the mobile phone antennas of the prefecture of Viotia, north of Attica, Mega TV and other media reported.

Though the warning messages, Greece’s Civil Protection calls on residents to limit their movements during the phenomena and to follow the instructions of  authorities.
