A significant landslide phenomenon is underway near the town of Arta in Epirus, western Greece. has caused structural damages to two homes. The local mayor has alerted the state authorities.
The phenomenon has swept away one house that ended up on top of another causing serious material damages.
Nobody has been injured and local authorities of the settlement Melissourgo have urged residents of other homes to evacuate them.
The owners of the house that was swept away told media that they were there with their children the previous weekend, but decided not to visit the village in the weekend.
The landslide occurred near the upper square of the village on Sunday morning.
No intervention is possible at the moment as neither teams of the Civil protection or scientists can approach the area, local media epiruspost.gr reports.
A team of scientists is expected to conduct examination on the spot on Monday with the aim to propose appropriate measures.
Residents are highly concerned and fear about the dimension of the landslide phenomenon.
Speaking to epiruspost.gr earlier, the Mayor of Central Tzoumerka, Christos Hasiakos said that the two houses have suffered major damage while the phenomenon is ongoing.

The Fire Service has received dozens of calls mostly for cutting and removing trees and branches.
Residents complain that the arbitrary filling of a drainage ditch turned a 5×5 football field in Perama into a lake, while at least one house in the area was flooded and several others were at risk.
Power outages left homes and businesses without electricity and thus on a Sunday where stores are open for pre-Christmas shopping.
The opening of Santa Claus village in Ioannina has been postponed due to the bad weather and for safety reasons. It has been reportedly rescheduled for Tuesday, December 13.
