Greece Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias on an official visit to the country said that close cooperation with Senegal in education, tourism, renewables, new technologies, and Greece’s merchant fleet and navy are all areas where the two countries can begin to cooperate closely.
Speaking after meeting with President of Senegal Macky Sall, in Dakar he said:
“Greece and Senegal believe in the role of International Law and International Law of the Sea, which both countries have signed. This is for us something extremely important on which we can build a great relationship for the future.”
Greece opens Embassy in Senegal
Greece and Senegal can “cement their relationship starting today,” Dendias said during the ceremony of the opening of the Greek embassy in Dakar.

Dendias also made a special note of the presence of EU ambassadors at the ceremony, as “the EU is one of the proudest achievements in the history of humanity.”
Greece, he said would very much like to “play our own small role in cementing also the relation between Senegal and the EU, our family.”
Dendias also met with his Senegalese counterpart Aissata Tall Sall. “We had a fruitful discussion on enhancing the ties between Greece and Senegal in a wide range of issues, with a focus on maritime cooperation, trade, education, health, tourism, migration and tackling the pandemic,” Dendias said in a post on Twitter.
They also discussed the EU-Africa partnership, Greece and Senegal’s shared commitment to international law, including the Law of the Sea, as well as the security situation in the Sahel and maritime security issues.
Dendias and his Senegalese counterpart signed an MOU on Regular Political Consultations between the foreign ministries of Greece and Senegal, the foreign ministry posted on Twitter.
