Twelve young hooligans were found unanimously guilty of murdering a 19-year-old football fan and injuring two of his friends, by a mixed jury court of Thessaloniki on Thursday.
The victim Alkis Kambanos was murdered in the northern city in February 2022 following a football game involving the team the defendants supported.
Seven of the twelve young men were found guilty of manslaughter with possible intent, and five guilty of complicity.
In addition, several of the defendants were found guilty of charges ranging from attempted murder to complicity in the wounding of two friends accompanying Kambanos.
The announcement of the sentences will be read next week.
Kambanos was violently beaten and stabbed in the upper thigh before bleeding to death, while two of his friends, aged 19 and 20, were injured in the deadly attack by fans of a football team on February 1, 2022.
Before the attack, the defendants had asked the three friends which team they supported. The latter were attacked with knives, clubs, metal pipes, crowbars and a folding sickle, with murderous intent, the prosecutor’s report said.
