Greece’s National Security Governmental Council (KYSEA), the country’s top decision-making body on foreign affairs and defense matters, discussed on Thursday the Hamas’ terrorist attacks in Israel and the situation in the Gaza Strip, along with their effects on Greece and the wider region, the government spokesman said.
The emergency meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, reviewed the situation in the region and the ongoing repatriation of Greek citizens from Israel.
The Council carried out an overall review of the situation in the region and was briefed on the repatriations of Greek citizens from Israel, coordinated by the foreign ministry.
The Council meeting discussed all aspects of the crisis with emphasis on security, both domestic and international.
In the meantime, Greek authorities are on alert and the policy of guarding the land and sea borders continues with undiminished intensity, the spokesman added.
The Athens international airport ‘Eleftherios Venizelos’ is one of four airports in Europe that facilitate repatriation flights from Israel and will continue to do so for foreign citizens.
