Greece’s National Meteorological Service EMY issued an emergency bulletin weather on Friday warning of heavy rainfalls and storms over the weekend, August 5-6, 2023.

A weather system called PETAR, as named by the Italian Meteorological Service, moving eastward, is predicted to cause a temporary worsening of the weather in areas of western and northern Greece, from the noon hours of Saturday, Aug 5, until the first morning hours of Sunday, Aug 6.
Main characteristics of the weather deterioration will be heavy rainfalls and storms that will be accompanied by a high frequency of lightning and hail locally.
Despite the weather deterioration, temperatures are forecast to reach 40-41 degrees Celsius also over the weekend.
EMY WARNING & AFFECTED AREAS
From midday on Saturday: the northern Ionian Sea (mainly the islands of Corfu – Paxoi area), Epirus, gradually western Macedonia and western Sterea.
From the late afternoon: northwestern Peloponnese, western and northern Thessaly and central Macedonia.
On the night of Saturday to Sunday the phenomena in the northwest country will weaken.
