The Acropolis of Athens will be closed to public for several hours on Friday, July 14, as the heatwave that hits Greece reaches its peak with temperatures over 41 degrees Celsius also in the Greek capital.
As announced by the Culture Ministry, the Acropolis will operate on reduced hours, and will be closed from 12 o’ clock noon until 5 o’ clock in the afternoon.
The archaeological sites of Ancient Agora and the Kerameikos will remain in operation, where it is possible to visit the Archaeological Museums there, the ministry reportedly added.
During the summer, the Acropolis is usually open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
It should be reminded that temperatures in Athens are forecast to reach up to 41°-43° C tomorrow, Saturday, July 15, 2023, so similar measures may apply too.

Instructions to citizens by Civil Protection:
Stay in cool and shady places away from overcrowding, use air conditioners or fans and avoid heavy physical work in places with high temperature, absence od wind and high humidity.
Avoid sunbathing, as well as walking or running under the sun.
Wear a hat and sunglasses and light-colored clothing made of fabric that allows the skin to air and facilitates the evaporation of sweat, avoiding synthetic fabrics.
Consume light meals with fruits and vegetables, limiting fats and the amount of food.
Drink plenty of water and fruit juices, avoiding alcoholic beverages.
Special care is recommended for babies and young children, as well as the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases to protect them from high temperatures.
