Greece’s Finance Ministry has promised a bonus of up to 3,000 euros to citizens who will report tax dodgers who either discover fake receipts, receipt not automatically send to tax authorities. or no receipts at all.

To facilitate the whistle-blowing the Independent Public Revenue Authority AADE has a mobile phone app, the “appodixi” where the whistleblowers will scan the QR of the receipt.

The denouncement to AADE can be made either anonymous or eponymous.

However, the bonus starting from 100 euros and up to 3,000 euros will be given only to those who make the denouncement eponymous.

The relevant provision with incentives for taxpayers is to be added to the draft law to curb tax evasion that will be presented on Tuesday to the cabinet.

According to AADE data, over 235,000 citizens have already downloaded the app, a number expected to increase with the establishment of the “bonus.” Since the day it was activated, 135,000 complaints have been submitted, of which 75,000 were anonymous and 60,000 were provided with the senders name.

In addition to the above application, the National Economy and Finance Ministry and AADE on Monday presented another platform for “citizen complaints,” which is available on the digital portal myAADE (myaade.gov.gr) via the Applications/Popular Applications/Citizens’ Complaints route and enables interested parties to automatically submit their complaints and information, named or anonymous, choosing one or more of the following subject categories: corruption/integrity violations; tax violations; and customs violations, daily kathimerini reported.

Complaints and information submitted through the platform are automatically forwarded, depending on subject matter, to the relevant audit services for further investigation, as well as to the Internal Affairs Directorate, when the cases concern matters of its competence.

Meanwhile, Bank of Greece governor Yannis Stournaras said on Tuesday that “the size of black economy in Greece reaches 20.9% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product.”

PS Tax dodgers such as doctors, lawyers, electricians, plumbers etc will continue to receive money under the hand – of, course: without receipt! – while clients and customers will gladly make their tax evasion contribution to avoid the extra charge of 24% VAT to get a receipt that they cannot add to tax return declaration.

we live in the country of half-measures who benefit a small percentage of Greeks only…
