After a long period of extremely high temperatures in Greece, temperatures will show a noticeable drop on Thursday 27 July 2023, up to 14 degrees Celsius in 24 hours.
According to meteo service of the National Observatory of Athens, already on the evening of Wednesday, July 26, temperature drop has started from the north-west parts of the country.
Maximum temperature values on Thursday 27 /07 are forecast to decrease by up to 14 °C compared to the corresponding values of Wednesday 26/07. The temperature will return close to the average climate condition, i.e. the average value of the period 1991-2020.

Record temperatures on the last day of heatwave
On the fifth and last day of the third wave of the prolonged heatwave, 174 meteorological stations across the country showed temperatures above 40 °C, meteo.gr reports
According to a network of automatic weather stations of the National Observatory of Athens / Meteo.gr, on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, some of the highest temperature values of the last 16 years were recorded in Greece.
The highest temperature values were recorded in the eastern mainland and Crete, as shown by the temperature color scale of Map 1, with the highest maximum temperature recorded in Agia Triada Fthiotida with 46.1 °C. It should be noted that 44 meteorological stations recorded maximum temperatures of over 43 °C.
In Western Greece and Epirus, the temperature may not have exceeded 40 °C, but the high levels of humidity created a strong feeling of discomfort. The highest value of sensed temperature was recorded in Preveza, equal to 55 °C.
In Attica, the highest temperature value of 44.7 °C was recorded in Pallini, while in the coastal parts of Eastern and Southern Attica the sea breeze kept the temperature at the levels of 33-37 °C as shown in Map 2. In Western Attica the temperature reached 44 °C even in coastal sections.
