Sirens, church bells sound alarm across Greece in air-raid drill(videos)

The sound of air raid sirens and church bells was heard with intervals across Greece on Monday morning in a military drill that lasted 2 hours

11 o’ clock sharp on Monday morning sirens across Greece started their penetrating alarm sound for 60 seconds. After a short break, they started again for another minute and the whole drill with different time intervals, duration up to over one minute and different sound sound. The whole drill lasted until 12:55 Monday noon, when the last siren sounded alert.

In some regions, and simultaneously with the sounding of the alarm sirens, the church bells also rung in a series of short tolls at a rapid pace of three minutes.

Note, however, that according to feedback KTG has received, no sirens or church bells were heard in some towns and villages, while in the country’s biggest city, Thessaloniki, the siren at the Municipality council broke down during the drill.

In real war scenario, sirens and bells were actually urging people to leave their homes and rush to the bunkers. Or get out of them, when the sirens signaled “end of air raid.”

In today’s drill, though, the folk did not participate in the drill and did not rush to bunkers they mostly have no idea where these are – if there are any, at all, and in what condition they are.

The whole drill was meant only for the Civil Protection and the Armed Forces in the context of the big military drill PARMENION 2023.

For the first time, the military exercise scenarios reportedly included also dealing with migration flows, dealing of natural disasters, especially after the storms DANIEL and ELIAS in September, as well as the scenario of a possible asymmetric threat from the air (RENEGADE), which does not comply with the prescribed Air Traffic Control procedures, nor the Flight Plan of , and its actions tend to evolve into an aerial threat against civilian and military installations..

PARMENION 2023 ends on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.

PS According to feedback KTG has received, no sirens or church bells were heard in some towns and villages. IN the country’s biggest city Thessaloniki, the siren at the Municipality council broke down during the drill.

PS KTG believes that no average human could keep pace with the different signal sounds and intervals without a drill manual at hand today.
