Greek police has been set on high alert due to a planned far-right and neo-Nazis rally in Athens on Wednesday, November 1, even though police has banned rallies throughout Attica from 6 a.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday.
The rally is being organized to mark the shooting of two members of neo-Nazi Golden Dawn on November 1, 2013, outside the party’s offices in Neo Iraklio suburb of north-western Athens. An unknown grouo claimed responsibility for the shooting where the two members were killed and a third one injured.
No one has been arrested for the execution-style killings even though police had CCTV footage and a “picture” of the shooter.
Local and foreign Neo-Nazis
Local far-right groups like Hellenic Front and Athens Autonomous have been sending out calls to their European counterparts for mass participation in the gathering over social media sites like Telegram since the summer.
For this reason Greek intelligence service reportedly monitors activity at the country’s borders for the possible arrival of neo-Nazi and other far-right demonstrators.
Concerns about violence breaking out at the rally are heightened by the fact that gatherings are also being planned on the same day by far-left groups.
Left-wing groups in anti-protest
“Not an inch of land for the fascists” in Neo Heraklion on November 1st is the slogan of left-wing groups that call for an anti-rally on Wednesday.
That’s “the only answer” to the fascists who want to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the death of the two neo-Nazis.
According to daily efsyn, left-wing groups, anti-fascists organizations, unions and collective bodies are preparing for a massive anti-fascist gathering also in Neo Iraklio on Wendesday.
In fact, the gathering in question has a pan-European character, with various groups of the extreme right and the fascist area of Europe having issued announcements of support and participation, organizers stressed.
