Foreign tourist arrested for stealing marble from the Acropolis

Police in Athens has arrested a foreign national who visited the Acropolis and stole pieces of marble from the archaeological site.

Arrested has been a 36-year-old Romanian citizen following a complain by another visitor. He was found to have stolen two pieces of marble from the archaeological site.

According to information in the case filed against him, there is also the testimony of a 42-year-old woman who complained that she saw the man removing the antiquities from the site of the Acropolis, media reported.

The 36-year-old is to be charged of grand theft and the antiquities law.

It is noted that the theft took place on the morning of Tuesday, September 19.
