EMY Weather Warning

A deep barometric low from the north-northwest accompanied by a cold front is going to cause a deterioration of the weather over the weekend with gale-force winds in almost the whole country and locally heavy rains and storms in northern and eastern island Greece.

The temperature in the north will drop by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius.

A. Gusty northwestern winds of force 8 to 9 Beaufort with gusts up to 10 Beaufort will blow from the midday hours of Saturday, November 18, to the west and gradually to the east as well.

The winds will gradually weaken from Sunday afternoon, November 19.

B. Heavy rains and storms are predicted from the early hours of Saturday until the afternoon of the same day in the islands of the Eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese and temporarily in the early morning in Thrace.

What other meteorologists say

Meteorologists forecast that the weather deterioration will be of short duration, and temperatures will rise again in the following week continuing the “spring-like scenery” of the last few weeks.

The meteorologist of the state broadcaster ERT3 said that from Saturday on there will be “bitterly cold, from north to south, while the cold will be more noticeable in the most mountainous and northern areas of the country.

He forecast that the first snow sprinkling will fall on Parnitha mountain in north-western of Athens and Attica.”

Another meteorologist forecast that temperatures in the north will not exceed 14-16 degrees Celsius on Sunday, while in the south will range between 16°-18°C.

The phenomena are expected to weaken by late Sunday.

Note: gale force winds may affect sea traffic, therefore check with local port authorities and travel agents.
