“Spartan” alone in Parliament is seeking for his MPs

Leader of far-right opposition party Spartiates – Spartans – Vassilis Stigas sat alone in the Parliament during the debate in the wildfires on Thursday.

The leader of a party with 11 deputies is at odds with his own “army”, he lashed out at them speaking of “Greek Mafia” and “Don Corleone tactics” during his speech and expelled already three of them.

“I am listed in the Guinness book of Records, sitting here alone. The gentlemen who are not here today are guided and motivated by foreign, non-parliamentary entities. It is my firm opinion. These centers relate to the Greek Mafia and Don Corleone,” Stigas claimed during his speech.

Ηe noted that “they are told what to do, when and how they will do it. While fires are still burning throughout the country, and we now have national issues to discuss and there are thousands of problems facing us, some choose to do their own thing in the midst of this situation. But I am not afraid, I am standing tall. I have fallen and stood up again many times in my life. I fear nothing and no one.”

Speaking to reporters, Stigas claimed that at east some of the party’s MPs wanted to put their hands in Spartans state funding and claimed further that some 3,000 euros would land in prison each month – a hint to ex neo-nazi Golden Dawn No 2 and now serving a prison sentence Ilias Kassidiaris.

He added that the three MPs he expelled were leading the movement inside the party.

Parliament President Constantine Tassoulas urged the head of Spartiates  to send him a letter stating if his party’s parliamentary group exists or not, after his accusations against his party deputies who did not show up in Parliament.

Stigas may be in possession of the party seal, however, he would hardly continue to be funded if he has less than 5 MPs as the threshold for state funding requires.

According to media, the state funding for Spartiates is around one million euros.

Stigas reportedly sent the letter to Tassoulas stating he expelled 3 of his MPs.
