Part of Athens-Thessaloniki highway remains flooded also Sept 11 (video)

A large part of the Athens-Thessaloniki highway remains under water in areas of central Greece with the floods to have ‘cut’ the country into two,

The National Highway Athens-Thessaloniki has turned into an endless river after the tunnels of Tempi, in the direction from North to South, due to the unprecedented flooding phenomena caused by storm Daniel and the overflowing of Pinios river.

The panoramic footage released by the “Aegean highway” shots are shocking and show the scale of the disaster in the plain of Thessaly.

Flooded has been also the small chapel relatives of the over 50 victims of the train crash in February set up near the Tempi tunnel.

Traffic ban on the Aegean Motorway is still in effect on Monday, September 11, 2023.

The flooding phenomena are in the Gyrtoni-Sykouri area (H.Th. 366) and have  effectively cut the country into two.

Traffic is possible on the Thessaloniki – Leptokarya section and from the Nikaia- Larissa interchange to Athens and vice versa.

Athens-Thessaloniki highway was flooded n September 9 and has been closed since then.

Otherwise, motorists have to choose an alternative, one via western Greece.

Note that also the railway network has been damaged in the central Greece area.

The only ways to travel from North to the South and vice versa in Greece 2023, one has to use either a car or an airplane.
