Italian Neo-fascists detained at Athens airport

Twenty-one Italian Neo-fascists were detained at the Athens airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” and were taken to Police headquarters late on Tuesday. They were denied entry to Greece for “reasons of national security.” They had flown to Athens to participate to events marking the anniversary of the killing of two neo-Nazi Golden Dawn members.

Their detention followed a warning by the Italian security to their Greek counterparts with a list of 13 names of far-right extremists, members of the active neo-fascist organization “CasaPound Italia.”

According to cnngreece.gr, Italian authorities sent the list to the Greeks two days ago noting that these people would travel to Greece to participate in events for the 10th anniversary of the murder of two members of neo-Nazi Golden Dawn in Neo Iraklio, NW Athens on November 1, 2013.

Greek authorities conducting controls at the Airport Arrivals spotted next to the 13 people on the list another nine.

It was apparently easy to distinguish them from the other flight passengers as they were all dressed in the same style, had only one hand luggage and a return ticket for November 2.

Authorities did not allow them to exit the airport, by order of  banning entry for “reasons of national security.”

All 21 persons were taken to the Aliens Directorate where they will stay until tomorrow Thursday, where they will be taken to the airport to return to their country.

Meanwhile in Neo iraklio, north-western Athens, riot police squads have been deployed since early in the morning.

Despite the fact that Police has banned rallies throughout Attica on November 1, the neo-Nazis are determined to hold their rally and so are left-wing groups who have called for an anti-demonstration in the same area.
