Greek Anti-Terror indicts Egyptian man for “inciting to acts of violence”

The Anti-Terror Department of Greece’s police filed an indictment against a 39-year-old Egyptian national for inciting to acts of violence via the internet and social media.

The case file was submitted to the Chania First Instance Prosecutor’s Office as the Egyptian man has been living and working in Chania, Crete, for the last ten years.

The 39-year-old man is being reportedly accused of supporting the armed wing of Hamas, praised the terror organization and military wing of Hamas, the  Al-Qassam Brigades, and called on coreligionists to armed Jihad.

According to Greek Police, the man incited acts of violence in his posts on social media in October 2023 after the war started in Gaza Strip.

As reportedly pointed out in the relevant announcement of Greek Police, “the case file was submitted to the Chania First Instance Prosecutor’s Office, which ordered a preliminary examination for a violation of article 187A par. 6 in conjunction with article 98 of the Criminal Code.”

MEGA TV reported that the man was known to local police but he was not considered as a radical Islamist. However, the Anti-Terror Unit decided to put an end to his hate preaching, thus showing that it has radicals under control and observation.

The Al_Qassam Brigades

The Al Qassam Brigades were established in 1991 and, according to CIA Factbook estimates for 2023, number at least 20,000 fighters. Their name comes from the Syrian preacher Ezzdin Al-Qassam, who at the beginning of the 20th century called for armed resistance against the “new crusaders” of colonialism He was was killed in an exchange of fire with the British police in 1935.
