Greece ‘s PM Mitsotakis to visit Israel and Egypt in the next days

Greece ‘s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will visit Israel in the next few days, a State Minister announced on Tuesday. He will also attend the International Summit on the Palestinian Developvemtns in Egypt on Saturday.

Speaking to state broadcaster ERT, minister Akis Skertsos who announced the Premier’s visit to Israel that “Greece is a player, it has a role in this case”, adding that “the crisis should not develop into a regional one”.

At the same time, the minister pointed out that Greece supports Israel’s right to legitimate self-defense, as well as to live in a state of security.

Athens’ main goal is to play a key role so that there is no humanitarian crisis from the Israeli war, the minister added.

Mitsotakis intention to visit Israel was already leaked to the press a couple of days ago, however, with some reservation “due to the dangerous situation there,” it was added.

But now that EU and US leaders are flocking to the region, the Greek PM could not stay behind.

Anyway, Mitsotakis is expected to visit Egypt on upcoming Saturday following an invitation by President Abdel Al-Sisi who will host an International Summit to discuss the Palestinian developments on October 21.

Mitsotakis’ plan to visit Israel is part of his initiatives, such as his conversation with Tayyip Erdogan, which Athens undertakes after the outbreak of the war in Israel with the terrorist attacks of Hamas

Greece may not play a significant role in the conflict that it primarily involves Israel, the Hamas, the Palestinians, Egypt, Jordan, the Arab world and Iran. However, Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis present on October 10 a 5-point plan which is thin in content and is limited to condemnation of violence.

However, Greece is highly concerned about a repeat of the Refugee Crisis as in 2015 caused by the war in Syria. It has therefore to be active and present wherever it can.
