Andreas Loverdos, who held several ministerial posts, and former lawmaker announced on Wednesday that he withdraws from socialist PASOK/KINAL.
In a statement posted on social media, Loverdos stated that he has sent a letter to party leader, Nikos Androulakis, explaining the reasons behind his resignation, which he described as “purely political.”
The 67-year-old politician did not reveal his letter content, though.
Loverdos, who also ran for the party’s leadership in the 2021 election, was unsuccessful in securing a parliamentary seat in the June 25 legislative elections, making it the first time since 2000 that he has not been elected.
According to media information, Loverdos and leader Androulakis had been estranged in the last few weeks, he was not seeing any “political future” in the local governments and was deeply disappointed considering that the party did not appreciate his elections campaign.
First reaction of PASOK was that “everybody makes his own choises.”
Nobody is surprised about abandoning PASOK as Andreas Loverdos was openly supporting New Democracu policies in the last couple of years.
No Greek wonder whether he will join ND and get a nice well-paid official post as General Secretary, governor of a public hospital or whatever…
