Unbelievable and yet true: mostly elderly citizens visit the beach of Linoperamatα in Crete, believing that the warm waters are thermal with healing qualities. However, it turns out that the warm waters contain sewage.
The Head of the Hygiene Department of Public Health of the Region of Crete, Vice-President of the Panhellenic Union of Public Health Supervisors Antonis Papadakis, speaking on CRETA TV and the show Proti, appealed to citizens to avoid the beach in question as there is danger for the public health.
Papadakis stressed that treated sewage from businesses is discharged in this area.
He pointed out that many choose the specific beach because the waters are warm, thinking they have healing properties,
He added that there is normally a warning sign that swimming there is prohibited. However, he noted that some people remove the sign for unknown reasons.
Note that some areas of the Linoperamata beach are included in the June 2023 list of “no swimming” issued by the local authorities due to sewage, creta24.gr reported.
