A very high risk of fires (risk category 4) has been forecast for Sunday, August 20, in six regions of Greece, according to the Fire Danger Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of the Climate Crisis and Civil Protection ministry.
The regions with a Very High Risk of Fires danger are:
- Attica
- Evia, Skyros
- Viotia, Skyros
- Argolida, Corinth
- Halkidiki, Mt Athos
- Sporades islands
- Evros, Samothrace
- Kavala, Thassos
- North Aegean islands: Lesvos, Limnos
Regions marked “YELLOW” indicate that they are at “High risk of Fires” (category 3).
Meteorologists forecast strong northern winds – meltemia- blowing with intensity 7 to 8 Beaufort.
It is recalled that the fire season in Greece ends at the end of October and starting a fire outdoors or do agricultural or other works that cause sparks are absolutely forbidden.
