“It will take at least two years before the railroad network is restored in floods-stricken Thessaly, Central Greece,” Deputy Infrastructure and Transport Minister Nikos Tachiaos said in Parliament on Monday.

The region of Central Greece suffered immense destruction after storm Daniel beginning of September

“We are talking about a full restoration/reconstruction of the power line, and the full reassembly of all systems from the beginning,” Tachiaos said adding:

“There is no chance for this restoration to be done by the end of 2024. This restoration must conclude by the end of 2025. Essentially, it needs nearly two years to restore it to its full extent.”

The railroad passing through Thessaly connects the two biggest cities of Greece, Athens and Thessaloniki, transferring passengers and goods.

In this sense it doesn’t matter if the train is out of operation for two years.

Development Minister Kostas Skrekas said on Tuesday that the government’s strategic plan is to turn the country into an energy and technology hub.

As everybody knows, energy can be transported with vessels and technology via the internet.
