A prosecutor in Piraeus pressed felony charges against four crew members including the ferry captain for the death of 36-year-old passenger Antonis Karyotis at the port of Piraeus a day earlier.

The charges pressed late on Wednesday are for manslaughter as well as for violating articles of Greece’s Maritime Law.

Prosecutions were brought against the four crew members of the Blue Horizon ship after the death of 36-year-old passenger Antonis in the port of Piraeus, who, in his attempt to board the ferry for Heraklion, Crete, was pushed back by crew members, resulting in his fall into the sea and his death, while nobody tried to help him even trowing a life ring at him.

According to state-run news agency amna, the one member of the ship’s crew who is seen in the videos published on social media to push Antonis off the loading ramp has been charged with intentional homicide with possible intent and dangerous interference with maritime traffic.

The other two members of the crew who were present ave been charged with complicity in the homicide which was carried out with possible intent.

The captain has been prosecuted for dangerous interference in maritime traffic.

The four crew members remain in the Piraeus courthouse and are expected to be given a deadline for their testimonies.

The four have one common lawyer for their legal representation.

They could be sentence to life.

The tragic death of Antonis, a man with autism, has triggered an outrage in the society and the political world, while a series of questions about law violations even by the Port Authority remain unanswered as investigation continues.
