Greece Weather Warning: Heavy Rainfalls, Thunderstorms, gale-force Winds

Greece’s National Meteorological Service EMY issued an emergency bulletin on Thursday warning of a weather deterioration with intense phenomena in most parts of the country.

According to forecast, heavy rainfalls and storms accompanied by high frequency of lightning and hail will affect the country from Friday afternoon until midday Sunday, November 3-5, 2023.

The bad weather will initially affect the north-western parts and gradually the rest of the West on the mainland, the North and the North-East, the eastern Aegean Sea and the Dodecanese islands.

Winds in the seas will be blowing with gale-force.

A. Heavy rains and storms are forecast:

Friday, Nov 3

a. From late afternoon in the area of Corfu-Paxos.

b. From the evening hours in Epirus and during the night in western Sterea.

Saturday, Nov 4

a. From the morning hours in the Ionian Sea, Epirus, western Sterea, western Peloponnese and western Macedonia.

b. From midday in central Macedonia, eastern Macedonia and Thrace as well as the islands of the northeastern Aegean and possibly temporarily Thessaly.

c. in the evening hours the phenomena will weaken in most areas and will be limited to Thrace, the islands of the eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese.

Sunday, Nov 5

a. In the morning hours on the islands of the eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese.

WINDS

Southern winds will be blowing with intensity of 7 to 8 Beaufort and possibly locally with 9 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea from the morning hours of Saturday until the late afternoon.

Note that winds may affect the sea traffic in the area.
