Athenians looked up in the sky several times early Thursday afternoon due to the loud noise of fighter jets in low flight over the Greek capital from the north to the south and back. Many wondered what was going on and what was the purpose of the flyover as drills for the National Day on October 28 are still weeks away.

The mystery was solved when state-run news agency amna posted that three US Air Force F-35s would fly over Athens between 15:00 and 15:30 as part of the annual airshow Athens Flying Week 2023.
Some complained about that noise scared their dogs and others that the pilots do not respect the official siesta times.
