Weapon in parcel destined to USA detected at Athens airport

A weapon in a parcel was detected at the Athens international airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” on Monday morning. the weapon was detected by an employee of a private security company.

According to news website in.gr, the security guard detected the weapon during the X-ray check a package destined for the USA.

Police rushed to the scene and a little later a 9 mm pistol, a magazine and seven bullets were found inside the package, state broadcaster ERT reported.

According to police sources, the specific package was delivered to an ELTA agency on Mitropoleos Street near Syntagma Square in downtown Athens on November 7.

Authorities have launched a preliminary investigation in order to identify the sender and the purpose of the by the competent authorities is underway.
