Weather deterioration with rainfalls & strong thunderstorms

The warm, sunny October days are to make place to clouds, rainfalls and thunderstorms as meteorologists forecast a weather deterioration in Greece in the next few days.

The bad weather front is expected to hit Greece with rainfalls, locally strong thunderstorms and temperature drop from Tuesday, October 17, however, the weather will improve again on Friday, October 20, 2023.

The bad weather is forecast to mainly affects the western and northern parts of the country.

According to the available prognostic data of the National Observatory of Athens / Meteo.gr:

Tuesday, Oct 17:  rains and local storms are expected initially in Epirus, Western Mainland and Macedonia, which will gradually extend to the rest of the western and northern parts. After noon they weather phenomena will affect areas of Central Mainland, Thessaly and Northern Evia.

Local rainfall are also expected in Crete, mainly in its mountainous parts.

The phenomena in Epirus, the Northern Ionian Sea and later in Western Mainland will be intense in places, while local hailstorms are predicted in the Ionian islands and in the coastal parts of Epirus and Western Mainland.

According to the classification of the precipitation episode (RPI), which is applied by the Meteo unit of the National Observatory of Athens, the precipitation episode for Tuesday 17/10 is classified as Category 3 (Significant).
