Greece’s National Meteorological Service EMY issued an emergency bulletin on Sunday, warning of a weather deterioration with intense phenomena such as heavy rainfalls and storms, high frequency of lightning, hail, stormy winds, Sahara dust and snow.
The bad weather front comes from Italy with local meteorologists to have named it “ILINA”.
ILINA is forecast to hit Greece as early as Monday morning, april 3, 2023, the bad weather front will mainly affect the west, central and north parts of the country as well as the Eastern Aegean Sea.
It is expected to gradually weaken on Tuesday, April 4, as it will move North-East.

EMY Weather Warning – Regions Affected
A. Heavy rains and storms forecast for Monday (3. April):
from the morning hours: the Ionian Sea
from midday: Epirus, western Macedonia, western Sterea, western and southern Peloponnese
from midday hours: Thessaly, central Macedonia, central Sterea
from the afternoon: eastern Macedonia and gradually until the evening hours: Thrace, the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese.
The phenomena in the Ionian, Epirus, western Macedonia, western Sterea, western Peloponnese, Thessaly and central Sterea will weaken in the evening hours.
B. Heavy rains and storms forecast on Tuesday (4. April)
until night in the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese
until noon in central Macedonia, eastern Macedonia and Thrace
and in the morning hours they will occur intermittently in the Cyclades, Crete, southern Evia and southern Peloponnese.
Strong south southeast winds of intensity 7 to 8 Beaufort will prevail in the eastern Aegean from Monday (04-03-2023) until the early hours of Tuesday (04-04-2023).
The southern winds are forecast to bring Sahara dust from North Africa.

Temperatures are not expected to drop significantly due to the southern winds, therefore the snow will be limited mainly to the mountains of central and northern Greece.
