Dozens of newly graduated border guards signed civil partnership agreements just to avoid being assigned at the border. Alarmed by relevant media reports, Greece’s Minister for Citizen Protection ordered an investigation into the cases.
According to an announcement by the Greek police central, newly graduated border guards have signed nominal civil partnership agreements in order to secure with the new family status more points so that they ensure they will be placed in the Alexandroupoli Police Department and not at the border.
According to a report by local media evros-news.gr, of the 250 new border guards who have been hired to strengthen the forces in Evros, more than 100 have signed a nominal cohabitation agreement, in order to ensure the 5 to 7 points that it is required to be placed in the Alexandroupolis Police Department.
Most of the border guards reportedly want to be assigned in the capital of the Evros prefecture in north-eastern Greece than serve in the three Border Guard Departments, namely in Feres, Tychero and Soufli, where a total of 115 border guards are planned to be stationed.
Citing police sources, evros-news reported that dozens of such agreements have been signed after the border guards were hired. Investigation aims to find out whether the agreements are nominal just for the purpose of assignment.
“Two of the civil partnership agreements were signed between men,” evros-news reported, apparently …shocked!
Of the 250 hired border guards in total, six candidates were married before they managed to enter the Academy at Didimoteiho. At least 40 “were married” with civil partnership after they graduated.
There are indications that at least another 65 new border guards were about to sign civil partnership agreements until February 14, the deadline for their posting, noted cnngreece.
In case investigation finds out that the agreements were only for the assignment purpose, sanctions will be imposed and will include that the fraudsters will not get the points they need for posts at Alexandroupolis Police Department.
