Greece’s Justice Ministry submitted for public consultation a draft law to prevent the dissemination of terrorist content online. The public consultation will be open until November 8, 2023.

The Justice Ministry bill will incorporate into Greek legislation the Regulation (EU) 2021/784 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2021. It adds to earlier regulations, legislative or not, related to fighting terrorism and specifically fighting terrorist content online.

A ministry statement said that the proposed bill “safeguards the smooth operation of the digital market in an open and democratic community, dealing with abuse by terrorists of the opportunities the Internet provides for terrorist purposes (disseminating messages, intimidation, recruitment and facilitating of terrorist attacks) and contributing to achieving public safety in the entire Union.”
