Two earthquakes measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale were recorded on Thursday off the island of Kassos in the southern Aegean Sea, the Athens National Observatory’s Geodynamics Institute said.

The tremors were recorded at 10.18 a.m. and 10.24 a.m.

The first quake’s epicenter was located in the sea region 28km west-southwest of the island, while the second was located 29km west-southwest of Kassos.

There are no reports about injuries or material damages.

The two earthquakes were followed by three more tremors of magnitude 3 on the Richter scale.

Speaking to news website Creta24, seismologist Gerasimos Papadopoulos appeared reassuring and spoke of usual earthquake sizes in this specific region.

” They don’t cause any problems at all as they occur in an underwater environment,” Papadopoulos said.
