Director Lanthimos wins Venice’s Golden Lion award

Director Yorgos Lanthimos won the 80th Venice International Film Festival’s Golden Lion award for his film “Poor Things.”

The film stars Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe and Mark Ruffalo, and is based on a book by Alasdair Gray, with the screenplay by the author and Tony McNamara.

The film is the story of Bella Baxter, a young woman brought back to life during Victorian times by scientist Godwin Baxter, in a modern version of the myth of Frankenstein.

Lanthimos was congratulated by the Greek culture Minister, the country’s Film Center and the Thessaloniki Film Festival.
