Greece’s National Meteorological Service EMY upgraded to RED ALERT its emergency bulletin on Wednesday, warning of a heatwave in the next days, Thursday-Sunday, July 20-23,that will be followed by a another one in the following week.
The worst days with temperatures up to 44 degrees Celsius are forecast to be Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 21-23, 2023.
A. Today, Wednesday 19-7-2023, the areas that will be affected by very high temperatures will be limited to the western parts of the country, while in the east the temperatures will be lower and the feeling of heat less, mainly because of the annual winds (meltemia). which reach the Aegean Sea at 7 Beaufort.
B. On Thursday 20-7-2023 the winds will weaken and the temperature will start to rise.
C. In particular, from Friday to Sunday, July 21-23, the new heatwave will be felt throughout the country, while on Monday 7-24-2023, a temporary abatement of the very high temperatures is expected.
D. From Tuesday to Thursday, July 25-27, 2023 a new heat wave is expected with possible even higher temperatures.

The maximum value of the temperature will reach:
a. in the Ionian islands and the western mainlands 38 degrees Celsius to 40° C and in places in western Sterea and the western Peloponnese 41° C.
b. in the northern continental regions 37-38 ° C and locally in central Macedonia 39 degrees Celsius
d. in the eastern continental areas 37-39 degrees Celsius
e. in the islands of the eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese and southern Crete, 36-38 degrees Celsius.
Thursday 20-7-2023
the maximum temperature values will reach:
a. in Epirus and Macedonia 38-40° C and in places in central Macedonia 41- 42° C
b. In Thessaly, Sterea Greece and the Peloponnese 40-42° C and in places in Thessaly, western Sterea and the western Peloponnese 43° C degrees Celsius
c. in the Ionian islands 39-41 degrees Celsius.
d. in Thrace, the islands of the eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese 37-39 degrees Celsius.
Friday to Sunday, July 21-23
A slight further increase in temperature is forecast.
The maximum values will reach 41-43° C on the mainland and 44° C degrees in places in the interior of Thessaly and Central Greece,
38- 41 degrees Celsius on the islands.
Monday, July 24
Temperature is forecast to drop by 2 to 5 degrees Celsius, with the largest drop to be observed in the eastern part of the country and the smallest in the western part.
According to all the available forecast data from Tuesday to Thursday, July 25-27, 2023, very high temperatures are expected again in Greece.
Thodoris Kolydas, Meteorology Director at the EMY noted on social media, that the heatwave in the coming days and the one next week will be the second and possibly the last waves of CLEON respectively.

The forecast update with the latest data and details on the evolution of temperatures will be done every twenty-four hours, EMY noted, while it is reluctant in forecasts beyond 5-6 days.
Another meteorologist, Sakis Arnavutoglou, predicted the following temperatures until July 27.
