Greece to lift remaining coronavirus measures, says Health Ministry

March 14, 2023

Measures to prohibit coronavirus infections will be lifted, except in the case of public and private health facilities and nursing homes for the elderly, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

According to media, the measures to be lifted include:

  • masks to be abolished everywhere and in public transport – except in hospitals and homes for elderly –
  • unvaccinated workers in the public and private sector will no longer need to do a rapid or a PCR test every week.

In addition, there is an end to the five-day sick leave confirmed through a positive rapid test, and now the patient will receive it with a medical opinion, as in the case of the flu.

It should be noted that the minimum measures that had remained in the restaurant, such as disinfectants on the tables, are also being abolished.

All of the above will apply once the Joint Ministerial Decision is issued, which is expected to happen before Easter.

However, there is still a need to protect vulnerable groups against Covid-19 and for this reason it is recommended that personal protection measures, up-to-date vaccination and antiviral treatment be taken for those who are ill.

Note that a new 9-member committee was formed beginning of the week to follow the pandemic course in the next 3.5 months.

Also note that the majority of people does not wear masks in public transport since long ago, however, there are still some with masks in supermarkets, stores and other facilities.
