Two laborers working in touristic facilities, one the island of Rhodes and one on Santorini, were killed over the weekend with the two tragic deaths of the workers to raise serious safety questions for both personnel and guests.
A 59-year-old cleaning lady in a hotel on the island of Santorini was killed by a falling suspended bed on Saturday morning.
The manager of the company was arrested, while an investigation into the causes of the accident is underway
The tragic accident occurred at a hotel in the Oia area on Saturday, April 12, where a woman of Albanian origin was fatally injured.
According to local news website santonews.gr, the cleaning lady was injured when a special type of bed, which was fixed or suspended from the wall, detached and fell with force on her head, thus breaking her neck.
Emergency paramedics rushed to the scene, however the woman was already dead.
According to a police statement, the person in charge of the touristic facility in Oia was arrested, while an investigation into the exact causes and the circumstances of the accident is underway.
This was the first deadly accident in a touristic facility over the weekend.
On Sunday morning, a 65-year-old man was killed on the spot when he got trapped inside in the press of the laundry of a big hotel in Faliraki on the island of Rhodes. Ambulance with paramedics and firefighters rushed to the scene to help the man but they could only confirmed his death.
According to media, the victim was a professional soccer player who played with several football teams of the island. He was working in the hotel in order to make a living and he was due to go to pension in a couple of years.
Authorities investigate the circumstances of the incident that deprived from the local community a beloved member.
