Tragedy on Kos: Car crashes into bakery, killing a British tourist, seriously injuring her husband

A shocking traffic accident with one dead tourist and one seriously injured on the island of Kos: A jeep swerved and crashed into a bakery in Tigkaki on Friday afternoon. A British tourist couple was sitting at one of the tables outside the bakery enjoying a coffee.

However, their vacation ended in tragedy: The 68-year-old woman and her 69-year-old husband were seriously injured and taken by ambulances to the island’s hospital.

A few hours later, however, the woman succumbed to her injuries.

Her husband remain intubated in the hospital’s ICU, also on Saturday evening.

According to media, the 50-year-old jeep driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a bakery, dragging and seriously injuring the British tourist couple.

Local media kosnews24.gr noted that the 50-year-old driver of the vehicle, of Albanian origin, who was working  at a hotel in the area, tried to park the jeep in front of the bakery.

However, he allegedly stepped on the gas instead of the brake and crashed into the bakery at high speed. The jeep does not belong to him but to another resident of the island and he did not have a driving license.

The driver was arrested and a case has been filed against him for manslaughter by negligence and causing bodily harm, based on articles 302 of the Penal Code and 94 of the Highway Traffic Code.

The Traffic Police on the island still investigates the tragic traffic accident.
