Tourist slaps schoolgirl on ferry from Italy to Greece

A tourist slapped a schoolgirl on board of a ferry and was arrested when the ship arrived at the port of Igoumenitsa, western Greece. The victim was taken to the Emergency Room of a local hospital as a precaution.

It all happened on a ship traveling from Italy to Igoumenitsa on Sunday, April 6.

After he was arrested, the 33-year-old French national claimed that he was irritated as the students were pushing each other behind him making a lot of noise, while they were waiting to disembark. At some point he got kicked causing him to turn around abruptly and slap the 16-year-old girl who was standing next to him.

Eyewitnesses claimed that it was more than a slap, local media reported without elaborating.

The Frenchman was arrested for violating article 312 of the Criminal Code “Bodily harm to weak persons”.

The students were from a school in Lamia, central Greece, on an education visit to Italy.

The Port Authorities of Igoumenitsa arrested him and are conducting a preliminary investigation.

According to local media lamiareport.gr, the minor was transferred to the Emergency Department for precautionary reasons.
