A 48-year-old man with disabilities is struggling for his life, intubated in the ICU of a big hospital in Athens, after he was beaten by a 17-year-old teenager boy in Glyka Nera village of eastern Athens.
The victim is seriously injured in the head and doctors describe his condition as “very critical.”
Police has arrested the attacker who faces charges for attempted murder. If the victim will not survive, the perpetrator will spend several year in prison. The boy has been also charge with the misdemeanor of supplying and possessing drugs.
Police has been searching for at least one more boy as accomplice to the crime, who was also filming the attack and uploaded the video to a closed group on internet, apparently for other teenagers to watch.
The attack took place late on Tuesday afternoon. The victim was standing on the quite street of the village, when he was approached by the 17-year-old riding a e-scooter.
He knocked the man down with at least one a punch in the face and head, called him “son of a whore” and said “sit there now and die.”
The violence was unprecedented and extremely shocking.
“He was definitely on the ground for half an hour,” an eyewitnesses told media. “Blood was pouring from his head, his teeth were broken and he was also having seizures.”
The boy run away leaving the bleeding man alone on the asphalt and with him also at least one accomplice, the boy who filmed the scene.
The attacker later claimed to police that the victim had bothered and verbally attacked his sister while he was holding a knife, two days ago.
However, residents in the area told media that the man, a person with disabilities and a father of two, has been known to have psychological problems but he was quiet and never caused problems in the neighborhood.
The attacker has been referred to a juvenile investigator and requested a deadline to apologize tomorrow, Thursday.
According to media, the 17-year-old boy who had demonstrated behavioral problems many times in the past and was being monitored by a child psychiatrist.
furthermore, police has arrested also the attacker’s parents for negligence in supervising a minor.
