Schools in Greece reopened on Monday after more than two months of remote learning, as the digital platform for appointments for the inoculation of citizens over the age of 85 also opens today.
Special measures will be applied to primary schools, kindergartens and special education schools, such as wearing face masks and multiple entrances/exits. Masks are optional for kindergarten pupils.
There will be antiseptics in all schools and cleaning of all areas will be meticulous.
Greek health authorities are also carrying out sampling checks at schools.
Meanwhile, high school students around the country resumed their lessons remotely on Friday after the holiday season.
Platform for seniors
The digital platform for appointments for the inoculation of citizens over the age of 85 has opened on Monday.
According to the plan, their vaccinations are expected to start on January 20.
Deputy Minister for Digital Governance Giorgos Georgandas told Skai TV on Friday that citizens must first register on the paperless prescription platform on the gov.gr website, with their AMKA social security number and Taxisnet codes.
If unable to do so, they can seek help from their local pharmacy or Citizens’ Service Center (KEP).
Once registered for paperless prescriptions, they can then log on to the new platform which goes online today at emvolio.gov.gr.
After signing up for their jab, they will receive a message of where and when it will take place.
Vaccinations continue
The number of vaccinations performed will soon increase from the present 5,000 to roughly 8,000 a day, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis promised on Friday.
“The priority set by the vaccinations committee was clear: vaccination of healthcare professionals in public and private hospitals and, of course, the staff and residents in public and private care facilities and retirement homes,” Mitsotakis told his ministers.
A total of 223 vaccination lines will be set up in hospitals, increasing daily capacity to around 8,000 vaccinations a day — and possibly even more, Mitsotakis added.
