Stefanos Tsitsipas completely lost his head during his ATP Cup encounter with Nick Kyrgios, and managed to injure his father during an angry racquet smash.
The Greek world No. 6, caught his father Apostolos – who is also Team Greece’s captain in Brisbane – when he assaulted the courtside chairs after losing the first set to the Australian.
Kyrgios had just pinched it in a tiebreak, drawing a furious response from Tsitsipas – who won the ATP Finals at the O2 in London to end 2019 – and he lost his cool, leaving his father petrified as he smashed a racquet in close quarters.
Apostolos Tsitsipas could not quite get out of the way of his son’s tantrum and his arm was left bruised by one wild racquet swipe.
Tsitsipas’ mother was soon on the scene, delivering a lecture to her son from the Greece team area and he was handed a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Tsitsipas lost to Kyrgios 7-6(7), 6-7(3), 7-6(5).
