Kid Wallet: Greece introduces app for parents to monitor children’s mobile

The Greek government introduced on Monday the “Kids Wallet”, a digital parental control tool allowing parents to be able to monitor, but not spy, their children’s mobile phone usage and also serves as a means of identifying the child using it.

The Kids Wallet is an application in the context of the measures announced by the government on the National Strategy for the Prevention of Violence and the Management of Juvenile Delinquency for the period 2025-2030.

The Kids Wallet app can be downloaded via the App Store or the Google Play Store.

This national strategy aims to address the growing challenges faced by young people in both the digital and physical worlds, with  particular focus on prevention and protection.

The strategy includes a series of targeted actions and initiatives, focusing on strengthening young people’s digital literacy, promoting safe internet use and developing parental control tools.

One of the central elements of the strategy is the Kids Wallet which is not a means of surveillance with penalties, but a tool that enhances the role of parents, said Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou.

The operation of the kids wallet application dominated Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ presentation of the National Strategy for the Prevention and Treatment of Violence and Juvenile Delinquency.

He stressed the need to effectively limit the phenomenon of youth addiction to the internet. “I encourage parents to make full use of this tool, to discuss it with their children, but also to dedicate time to understanding how children think in adolescence. The Kids Wallet essentially functions as a framework of limits for children,” Mitsotakis said.

The prime minister also emphasized the importance of sports for young people, adding that joining a sports team helps children understand the framework of rights and obligations.

He also pointed out that the new generation has no taboos about raising the mental health issues of young people, clarifying, however, that the State must provide the necessary infrastructure.

He also referred to the stop bullying platform, on which more incidents have been recorded.
