Ticket prices for high-speed ferries have been cut by up to 32% for families and groups of more than three travelers, Shipping and Island Policy Minister Vassilis Kikilias announced Friday.
“We’re very satisfied today,” Kikilias said during a visit to the island of Spetses. “After ensuring there would be no fare hikes, as promised, we are now seeing reductions – especially benefiting Greek families and larger groups. This is a significant step for most of our island destinations.”
“We are very pleased today, as after the containment and non-increase of ferry ticket prices, as we had promised and committed, today there were announcements regarding high-speed ferries and the reduction of up to 32% in ticket prices for the Greek family, but also for groups of three people and more. And this is very important for us, because it concerns the vast majority of island destinations and shows that we are interested in and support the Greek family, travelers, islanders and the whole world,” said the Minister of Shipping. He added that this year we expect a very strong tourist season and more income for Greeks at all levels.
The cuts follow a government move to offset higher operating costs linked to a European Union mandate requiring ferries to switch to cleaner, more expensive fuel starting May 1. To prevent fare increases of 12%–15%, the government halved port fees, Kikilias said.
The minister expressed optimism for a strong tourist season, saying the measure supports travelers, island residents and the broader Greek economy.
