Greek Police Dismantles International Drug Ring, 1.18 Tons of Cocaine Seized

Greek police have dismantled an international drug trafficking ring and confiscated 1.18 tons of cocaine in Astakos in the Aitoloakarnania prefecture after a long joint operation.

The traffickers were systematically active in transporting significant quantities of cocaine from St. Vincent Island in the Caribbean to countries in Europe and northwest Africa.

The drugs department of the Hellenic Police, the Port Authority and the financial crime unit of the ministry of finance participated in the operation along with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

Eight men were arrested, most of them Albanian nationals. The cocaine was hidden in a complex of rented rooms in Astakos.
