A man known as one of the leaders of the Greek Mafia was shot dead as he was exiting a private medical center in Halandri suburb of northern Athens on Thursday and thus in the middle of the day.
The man was gunned down with dozens of bullets from what it seems two Kalashnikov rifles with the majority of the bullets to have hit him on the head. More than 30 bullets were found at the scene, media reported.
The perpetrators, two men dressed in black, had set up an ambush outside the clinic. When the victim came out, they shot him with Kalashnikov rifles, leaving him dead in front of his vehicle.
Citing police sources, media reported that victim has been identified as 55-year-old Giorgos Moschouris. He was reportedly believed , one of the remaining three key figures in organized crime circles. He had survived a previous assassination attempt in 2020, when he was shot 15 times outside a bakery in Vari, east of Athens.
Known by the nickname ‘Thamnakias’, Moschouris had been convicted of racketeering and served time in prison, and was involved in several criminal investigations.
Eyewitnesses of the murder said that two men drove up in a vehicle and opened fire with what appeared to be a Kalashnikov rifle before fleeing at high speed.
It should be noted that there were many people in the area at 4:30 in the afternoon. One bullet hit a car driving by, another the window glass of the clinic.
ANT1 TV showed a clinic employer who said that the victim was undergoing aesthetic therapy in the clinic.
The perpetrator’s car was found in flames a few minutes in the nearby area of Patima.

Greek police are seriously considering the possibility of settling scores within organized crime and Greek mafia circles.
Police have launched an investigation.
PS Point is that with the mafia-style shootings mostly in broader daylight and in areas full of people we could claim that Greece has turned into … “American bar”, as we say “Αμέρικαν μπαρ γίναμε”, and we should thank some divine powers that we are still alive.
