The purchase of 49 American UH-60M Black Hawk general purpose helicopters for the Greek Army and the Air Force is being rapidly promoted by the General Staff of National Defense. This is another major equipment program with a budget of around 1.7 billion euros.
According to military issues website OnAlert.gr, last weekend the General Directorate of Defense Equipment and Investments (GDAEE) issued, with the Letter of Request (LOR) an official request of interest to the United States government, for the supply of 35 UH-60M Black helicopters Hawk, with a budget of 1.2 billion euros.
The 31 Black Hawk are intended for the needs of the Army while the remaining 4 will be allocated to the Directorate of Special Warfare (DEP).
In addition, an order has been given by the political and military leadership of the ministry to GDAEE to formulate a second official request with the LOR mission which will concern the acquisition of another 14 helicopters for the Air Force.
The cost of this procurement is estimated at approximately 500 million dollars.
The course of the armament programs is expected to be dealt with at the meeting of the Council of Chiefs of General Staff (COG), which is scheduled for Wednesday, April 5,2023.
The agenda includes, among others, the Black Hawk purchase as well as the final US offer for the 5th generation fighter jets through the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) mission, OnAlert.gr reported.
