A 84-year-old man killed his 79-year-old wife early Tuesday morning after an argument the two old people had in their home in Menidi suburb of western Athens.
The man had reportedly pushed his wife who fell, hit her head and died on the spot.
The perpetrator called his son telling him that the mother fell and she was not feeling good. The son called the ambulance and when paramedics confirmed that the woman was dead they informed the police.
The 84-year-old man was arrested and he later allegedly told authorities that it was his wife who threatened him with a hammer and he pushed her away in self-defense, state-broadcaster ERT reported.
The suspect appeared to be in confusion and he is held in a police station, until the prosecutor who has filed against him, will decided what will happen with the old man. Investigation on the issue in ongoing.
There are media reports that he was suffering from psychological problems and he was in treatment with prescription medication.
Neighbors are shocked and told media that it was a quiet couple adding the man had the peculiarities of old people and complained about noise.
The reason for the couple’s argument around 7 o’ clock in the morning remains unknown.
The victim is one more woman in the long Greek list of femicide.
